Position Overview
The Head of Accounting plays a critical role in overseeing the accounting department, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of financial records, and supporting organizational goals. This role reports directly to the Head of Finance and manages a team comprising a Deputy Head of Accounting, Accounting Specialists, Tax Specialist, IFRS Consolidation Specialists, and (Senior) Accountants.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the accounting department, ensuring the proper maintenance of all accounting systems and processes.
- Provide expert advice and consultation on accounting and tax matters to the Head of Finance and other departments.
- Oversee and review the work of the accounting team, ensuring accurate and timely processing in areas such as:
- Accounts receivable and payable.
- Travel expense bookings.
- Bookings for debit cards, credit cards, and payment platforms.
- Fixed and intangible assets accounting.
- Accruals, prepayments, and foreign currency transactions.
- Support the preparation and execution of the annual audit of financial statements.
- Ensure timely and accurate tax filings, including VAT calculations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to meet organizational needs.
Deputy Responsibility
The Deputy Head of Accounting serves as the primary backup for this role in the event of the Head of Accounting’s absence.
Requirements
Hard Skills:
- At least 5 years of experience in accounting, with a minimum of 2 years in a leadership position.
- Relevant accounting qualifications and training.
- Proficiency in German and English.
- Basic knowledge of tax-related topics, including VAT calculations.
- Up-to-date knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping standards.
- Strong technical expertise in financial systems and processes.
