Head of Data & Analytics – Amsterdam
Full-Time | Amsterdam | Data & Technology

About Our Client

Our client is a well-established, data-led organisation operating at scale in the digital marketing space. With a global user base and a strong technology-first culture, they sit at the intersection of performance marketing, product analytics, and advanced data engineering. Their Amsterdam headquarters serves as the commercial and technical hub for a team of driven professionals who are passionate about using data to make smarter decisions, faster.

They are now looking for a Head of Data & Analytics to lead their data function – a senior, strategic hire who will shape how the organisation collects, interprets, and acts on data at every level.

The Opportunity

This is a pivotal leadership position with genuine scope and visibility. You will own the data strategy end-to-end, driving the roadmap across Data Science, Business Intelligence, and Data Engineering. You will work closely with senior stakeholders across marketing, product, and operations – and you will be expected to build, not just manage.

If you are energised by hypothesis testing, optimisation challenges, and the idea of deploying machine learning at scale in a real commercial environment, this role offers exactly that.

What You Will Do

  • Define and execute a comprehensive data strategy aligned with commercial objectives
  • Lead and grow a multi-disciplinary team spanning Data Science, BI, and Data Engineering
  • Oversee data infrastructure, including OLAP systems and columnar databases
  • Ensure data quality, integrity, and governance across all platforms and pipelines
  • Develop and maintain KPIs for marketing operations and billing systems
  • Apply statistical methods and machine learning techniques to drive campaign performance
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to translate data into clear, actionable insight
  • Build a culture of intellectual curiosity, rigour, and continuous improvement
  • Identify and attract strong data talent as the team scales
  • Stay ahead of emerging trends across data science, BI tooling, and engineering practices

About You

  • Proven leadership experience within a data science, BI, or data engineering function
  • Strong background in internet or performance marketing — you understand the metrics that matter
  • Deep expertise in OLAP, statistics, and applied machine learning
  • Advanced SQL skills and hands-on experience with columnar databases such as Redshift
  • Practical Python ability across data analysis, ML workflows, and engineering tasks (Pandas, NumPy, SciPy)
  • Experience with data visualisation in JavaScript, including frameworks such as D3.js or Plotly.js
  • A natural leader who develops people as well as projects
  • Clear communicator who can translate complexity into business language
  • Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline — Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or similar

Why This Role

  • Competitive base salary with an attractive performance bonus
  • A genuinely informal, multicultural environment in central Amsterdam
  • Real investment in learning — budget for conferences, workshops, and professional development
  • The ability to test your ideas against a live user base of hundreds of thousands
  • Company-sponsored social events and an annual team retreat
  • Visa sponsorship and relocation support available where applicable
