Our client is a leading cloud accounting platform built for small businesses and the self-employed. Their Financial Services division is expanding to add embedding lending, billpay, and broader financial products directly into the platform to help SMBs manage cash flow and access capital without leaving their workflow.

Role Overview

Build products that help small businesses actually run.

We are looking for a well-rounded Senior Product Designer who wants more ownership, more influence, and a steeper growth curve.

In this role, you will design how small business owners manage their finances end to end — from getting paid to managing cash flow. Your work will directly impact how people run their business, make decisions, and stay in control.

This is not a 'stay in Figma' role. You will help define what we build, why it matters, and how it all comes together across the product. You will own core parts of how small businesses manage, move, and make sense of their money, and help shape what comes next. You will partner closely with Product, Engineering, Data, and Marketing to move from idea to shipped experience — bringing clarity to complex problems and shaping a system that feels simple, cohesive, and trustworthy.

This role is designed for someone who has already proven themselves and is ready for real ownership and the chance to influence both the experience and the product over time. It is a high-trust, high-ownership environment with a bias toward action — constraints, trade-offs, and ambiguity are part of the work and part of how you will grow.

Why This Role Is Different

  • Meaningful ownership. You will own significant product areas with real responsibility and visibility — not just tickets or screens.

  • Design shapes product direction. You will be expected to contribute to what we build, not just how it looks.

  • Impact on real businesses. You will build tools that help small business owners run and grow their operations.

  • A strong, collaborative team. A tight-knit group that cares about craft, pushes each other, and shares ownership.

  • Growth over time. You will have the opportunity to expand your scope, take on more responsibility, and grow your impact toward senior IC leadership or beyond.

Responsibilities

Own Meaningful Product Areas End to End

  • Take responsibility for core parts of the product, including payroll and other financial services experiences.

  • Own the design process for your area: bring Product, Engineering, and Data together to frame problems, explore solutions, and converge on the best outcome for users and the business.

  • Drive work from early discovery through to polished, shipped outcomes.

  • Operate with a high degree of autonomy, moving work forward without waiting for direction.

  • Define and track UX metrics that measure the impact of your design decisions on real business outcomes, not just usability.

Design Thoughtful, High-Quality Experiences

  • Turn complex workflows into clear, intuitive experiences.

  • Create high-fidelity designs and prototypes in Figma with a sharp eye for UI, animation, and micro-interactions.

  • Align cross-functional teams to define outcomes and plans.

  • Sweat the details that make an experience feel simple and well-crafted.

  • Ensure experiences feel cohesive across the product and different surfaces.

Lead Customer Learning

  • Lead end-to-end research, from generative discovery at the front of the process to evaluative testing before build.

  • Independently run interviews, concept tests, beta programmes, and pilots to de-risk investments before commitment.

  • Talk directly to small business owners to understand how they actually run their business.

  • Translate ambiguous insights into clear problem definitions and direction the team can act on.

Shape the Product, Not Just the Interface

  • Contribute to product direction and prioritisation.

  • Help define what is worth building and why.

  • Turn technical constraints into thoughtful design decisions rather than compromises.

  • Spot patterns across squads and advocate for system-level improvements over one-off fixes.

Drive Alignment and Momentum

  • Work closely with Product, Engineering, Data, and Marketing to move work forward and ensure what we ship lands well with customers.

  • Connect the dots across squads — identify dependencies and thread initiatives together so the end-to-end experience feels seamless.

  • Adapt how you communicate based on your audience, from engineers to leadership.

  • Proactively identify and resolve misalignment before it becomes a problem.

Design With Systems in Mind

  • Contribute to and evolve our design system and component libraries.

  • Ensure new work fits into a cohesive, scalable experience.

  • Help others apply patterns and best practices, raising the overall quality of the team.

Elevate the Team

  • Mentor and coach peers one-to-one, sharing knowledge and helping others grow.

  • Teach the broader team through craft talks, critiques, brown bags, or other formats — lift the group, not just yourself.

  • Model the standard of rigour, curiosity, and craft you want to see across Design.

Qualifications

Strong Product Design Experience

  • 5+ years of product or UX design experience.

  • A portfolio that demonstrates real impact in SaaS or complex products.

  • Experience designing end-to-end workflows, not just isolated features.

A Balance of Execution and Thinking

  • You are hands-on and care deeply about craft — UI, animation, and micro-interactions are details you sweat, not afterthoughts.

  • You think critically about what should be built and why.

Systems Thinking

  • You naturally think in flows, patterns, and connections.

  • You care about how things work together across the product.

  • You value consistency, clarity, and usability.

Customer Empathy and Curiosity

  • You are comfortable leading research and digging into real problems.

  • You look for the 'why' behind behaviour, not just surface feedback.

  • You can translate insights into better product decisions.

Clear, Confident Communication

  • You can explain your thinking simply and effectively.

  • You collaborate well with Product, Engineering, and Marketing.

  • You advocate for the user while staying pragmatic.

  • You adapt your communication style based on your audience.

A Growth Mindset

  • You are already informally mentoring others and want that to count.

  • You see leadership as something you grow into through influence, not titles.

  • You actively seek feedback, want to stretch, and want to keep getting better.

Additional Valuable Skills & Experience

  • Experience designing in fintech, payments, payroll, or accounting products — anywhere money movement and financial data sit at the core of the experience.

  • A track record of designing for SMB owners, freelancers, or self-employed users, with an understanding of how different their mental model is from enterprise or consumer.

  • Comfort designing complex, data-dense interfaces — tables, dashboards, reconciliation flows — and making them feel calm rather than cluttered.
