Introducing you to a new DS team member every two weeks, we’re excited to announce another release from our Internal Interview series! This week, we chatted with our Senior Technical Recruitment Consultant and recent addition to the team – Aaron Morgan-Bonner. Dive into our catch-up below, as we talk about changes in the recruitment landscape, his golden tip for junior recruiters, the one meal he would eat for the rest of his life and so much more!
Where are you from?
My ancestors came over on a longboat from Norway, but now I have a Mancunian accent.
Can you describe what you do at DS in 5 words or less?
That would be quite difficult. Or – All of the ‘Digital’ recruitment
As Senior Recruitment Consultant, what is the biggest change you have observed in the industry over the years? How has this impacted the recruitment landscape today?
I would say that the industry can change as often as each quarter, but it’s those who build relationships who last. Signing up to some new one-size-fits-all automated recruitment website may seem a better choice as it’s usually cheaper (initially), but you’re not going to get the best candidates/jobs. Recruitment is connecting people with people, an algorithm can’t do that as well as a human, who is also a good recruiter.
What golden tip would you share with Junior Consultants who are just starting their careers in recruitment?
Eat the frog.
If you could choose to be one age to be forever, what age would it be and why?
I’m a little young to know the answer to this question, maybe ask me in like 50 years?
If you could eat only one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Lamb Kahari with a garlic Naan from a Tandoori oven.
What TV show or movie do you absolutely refuse to watch? Why?
Anything like L*ve Isl*nd or those Kardashian monsters. Those shows have made being vacuous and ignorant something to aspire to be, I hope it’s a cultural phase and we grow out of it. Watch Neil deGrasse Tyson instead.
Who would you like to swap places with for a day (celebrity/animal/alien/historical figure)?
Hunter S Thompson, he seemed to have quite interesting days, but one would be enough for me (and most people).
Coffee or tea?
A complex Argentinian Malbec.
