Meet Victoria – Digital Source Internal Interviews

Introducing you to more members of our team, we bring you another edition of our internal interview series. This time, we have a chat with Victoria Hammond – our Head of People & Operations here at Digital Source. Read ahead, to find out more about her journey at DS, her most memorable team moments and what she gets up to when she’s not working.

Where are you from?

I’m originally from Melbourne, Australia but have been living in Amsterdam for the past 4 years.

How did your journey at DS begin?

I joined the DS team when I moved to the Netherlands. It was actually through a bit of chance that I came across DS – through a lucky encounter with our CEO Jordan’s cute but crazy dog Betsy. After learning a bit more about DS and my experience, I joined the team to build the HR function for DS and our partner brand PCN. Since then things have really evolved. I now manage our teams within marketing, ops & people across both brands!

According to you, what’s the best part about working in HR?

It’s being able to really feel the impact of what you’re doing. There’s nothing better than seeing someone you recruited achieve their first deal, or receive a promotion and knowing that I played a small part in contributing to that. I find the opportunity to be able to shape people’s experience and time with us something that I will never get sick of. I love being able to look for ways to attract, grow and retain the best people for DS.

What makes the work culture at DS unique?

The team at DS are the perfect mix of raw talent, hard work and fun. I think this translates into the culture and why it’s so unique. From the outside, we might look a little casual and laid back, but once you peer under the surface you see how driven and determined everyone is to succeed. I love that about working at DS.

Can you share your top 3 team moments with us?

I think seeing the rebrand come to life this year was such a highlight, it really encapsulates the brand. Another one would be our incentive trip to Val D’Isere last year, it’s also up there with some of the best memories. It’s not a single moment, but something I love (when we are in the office) on Thursday afternoons is when Simon, who heads up the DS team, hand delivers a drink to us and we toast to the end of week. It’s such a nice way to get together and have a bit of team bonding.

What key piece of advice would you share with aspiring managers in the field?

Never forget that at the end of the day we’re all people. It’s easy to get caught up in the chaos, deadlines and pressure of what needs to be done – but as a manager it’s equally important to make sure you’re always looking out for your team’s well being and doing what you can to support that. It will go a long way!

What’s the best thing about living in Amsterdam?

Being able to get everywhere on a bike. Also, Amsterdam in the summertime can’t be beaten!

If you could teleport to anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?

A bit soppy, but to Australia to see my family. With Covid this year, I haven’t been able to see them in over a year. I would usually be getting ready to travel back there for Christmas in the sunshine.

Where can you be found when you’re not working?

Usually traveling somewhere.

Beach or Mountains?

Beach in the summer and mountains for winter sports.

Arrifana, Portugal

What’s on your playlist right now?

I’ve gone back to 2008 and listening to a lot of Santigold lately.
